Congratulations to Karen Weller Employee of the Month for February 2004
- The Nominee is part of a dynamic trio in the Chronic Disease Prevention Program (Barbara Adkison and Pascale Jean)
- Developed a local work plan aligned with state goals
- Established a worksite wellness program with over 30 walkers in the "Walking Club"
- Deployed pedometer training and pedometers to hundreds of internal and external customers
- The Nominee participated in Mayors Fitness Challenge Kick Off and varied events
- Developed and convened one of the most successful consortium "Steps to a Healthier US" in which between 40 to 60 participants attend monthly meetings
- Developed goals and objectives for consortium members and established working committees in the areas of community outreach, worksite wellness and schools
- The Nominee participated in Major's Corporate Challenge
- Participated in numerous community health fairs
- Kicked off Heart Month with Red Dress Campaign and Awareness fair
- Additionally, the nominee is still involved in Health Start:
Attends Healthy Start Board meetings
Convened a local group to address racial/ethnical disparities in infant mortality
Teaches childbirth education on the weekends
On a community advisory panel on home visitation
The Nominee is a high performing nurse with outstanding work ethic, technical skill and a spirit of teamwork

Motivates us to "Step-up"
Recently the Nominee and team assisted the state in coordinating the "Step up Florida" a non-competitive physical activity event with one goal, to increase physical activity among Florida citizens
The program hopes to begin increasing exercise routines
The Miami-Dade County (2) day event elicited the participation of MDCHD employees and community walking from the South (lst day) to the north (2nd day) and passing the flag over to the Broward County Health Department
