"THE REACH OF PUBLIC HEALTH LAW IS AS BROAD AS THE REACH OF PUBLIC HEALTH ITSELF. PUBLIC HEALTH AND PUBLIC HEALTH LAW EXPAND TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR SOCIETY."
The Public Health Law Manual, Frank P. Grad

Welcome to the Legal Office,
Miami-Dade County and Monroe County Health Departments

The reach of the Legal Office has expanded into the Field of Bioterrorism to meet the needs of our county and state. Council have published "Quarantine: Preparing for the Attack", a book on how to legally and effectively quarantine individuals with smallpox. This book was posted on the Department of Heath's Internet website and given to all health departments in the state. The health department staff produced a videotape entitled "Smallpox: A Field Exercise" with a how to booklet given with each videotape. The purpose of the video and the booklet was to teach other counties how to handle a smallpox field exercise. The video and the booklet were furnished to all large health departments in the state. Council also published two booklets on the creation of residential and febrile facilities. These booklets inform health departments on how to create quarantine facilities during a smallpox outbreak. CDs were created reviewed and distributed to all health department attorneys at the statewide conference.
