Pamela Toomer, R.N., B.S.N., M.P.H., N.C.S.N.
Director, School Health Program
Pamela Toomer, RNC, BSN, MPH, NCSN, is the Director of the School Health Program for the Miami-Dade County Health Department. Ms. Toomer’s span and work experiences in public health have extended over many different programs and nursing roles within the Miami-Dade County Health Department.
During her time with the agency, her work experiences have included; working in the Maternal, Child Health and Family Planning Clinics, School Health, Healthy Start, Tuberculosis, and Nursing Administration in different nursing capacities. Ms. Toomer came on board with this agency as a Public Health Nurse while going through the ranks holding many leadership positions.
Ms. Toomer prior nursing experience included, working in the areas of medical/surgical, emergency room, and prison medical services nursing. She feels those work experiences prepared her in many ways for her career in Public Health. Ms. Toomer’s admits that her most rewarding experience has been providing various types of health services to the public health sector.
Ms. Toomer takes this role very serious and she understands the position of school health in the community. She is a member of various workgroups and committees that focus on school health. Ms. Toomer also volunteered to help in the development of a school wide survey assessing school health services that was distributed throughout the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system.
Ms. Toomer states, the major goal of the school health program is to provide quality school health services with the intent of helping to reduce medical and social barriers that may interfere with academic success.
