Founded in 1992, the Florida Sterling Council is a not-for-profit
501c(3) orgnaization whose mission is to to promote Florida's competitive
edge and quality fo life through promotion, assessments, and recognition
of performance excellence. Its vision is for Florida to be a State
of Excellence.
A 50-member Board of Directors, from organizations across all Florida
sectors, governs and oversseees the Council's activities. The Coucil's
major intiatives are focused around three distinct levels of management
assessment based on porformance excellence: the Governor's Sterling
Award, the Sterling Challenge for Performance Excellence, and the
Navigator survey tool. Other activities include the Annual Sterling
Conference, Training and Develpment Sessions, and Regional Team Showcases.
In 2002, the Miami-Dade County Health Department was the first county
health department in the state recognized as a role model in performance
excellence and recipient of the Governor's Sterling Award.
