Worksite Wellness

The Miami-Dade County Health Department has a worksite wellness program to encourage our employees to live healthy lives. Activities are varied and are based upon employee needs and requests. Among the most popular activities:

Pedometer Challenge - In this project, employees track their daily steps using a pedometer. Their goal is to reach 10,000 steps a day. This project is also available to Miami-Dade County area businesses.

Nutrition Series - These presentations are designed to provide an overview of good nutrition practices. They also provide information on reading labels and why a healthy diet is a crucial part of healthy living.

Aerobics - This 10 week series of classes is led by certified trainers and includes cardio workouts along with other full body workouts including hip hop aerobics.

Tai Chi - This is a series of movements that may be done slowly or quickly. It is used as a way to combine medication and movement and improve health. This 10-week series provides an opportunity to learn tai chi and how it can be beneficial to the employee's total health.

Employee Health Fairs - These events are designed for additional education of staff and include health information. Fairs can include medical screenings including blood pressure, glucose (blood sugar), cholesterol, percent body fat and Body Mass Index (BMI).
