Miami-Dade County Neighborhood Profiles

Miami-Dade County's surveillance data allows the Miami-Dade Partnership to develop profiles of the specific risk factors within each of the 10 zones (neighborhoods) within Miami-Dade County. (See Miami-Dade County Map by Zone)

The data included for each zone represents the cumulative number of reported adult AIDS cases (since 1980, N=30,324) and the cumulative number of reported adult HIV cases (since July 1997, N=10,816) up to December 31st 2006.

For illustration purposes, we have highlighted the risk factors within the different zones in Miami-Dade County. Our Prevention plan will give priority to the zones with the highest concentration of HIV and AIDS cases.

Liberty City and Vicinity
Zone IV that includes Liberty City has 6,071 adult AIDS cases and 1,844 adult HIV cases. This zone represents 9% of the county's total population but over 20% of the reported AIDS cases and over 18% of the reported HIV cases. This area has the highest number of cumulative AIDS and HIV cases in the county. The risk factors for the reported cases are:

North Central Dade
Zone V that includes Little Haiti, Brownsville, part of Liberty City and vicinity has the second highest concentration of adult cases totaling 4,201 and the third highest concentration of adult HIV cases totaling 1,293 cases. The risk factors for the reported cases are:

Little Havana and Vicinity
Zone VI that includes Little Havana, Overtown and vicinity has 3,834 adult AIDS cases and 1,137 adult HIV cases. This area has the third highest number of cumulative AIDS cases and the fifth highest number of cumulative HIV cases. The risk factors for the reported cases are:

Miami Beach and Vicinity
Zone III that includes Miami Beach, has the second highest number of cumulative HIV cases and the fourth highest number of cumulative AIDS cases with the highest concentration in South Beach. The risk factors for the 3,046 reported AIDS cases and 1,558 reported HIV cases are:

North Dade
Zone II that includes Opa-Locka, Carol City, Norland and vicinity has 3,092 AIDS and 1,180 HIV cases. The area has the fourth highest number of cumulative adult AIDS and HIV cases in the county. The risk factors for the reported cases are:

South Miami
Zone VIII that includes South and West Miami, Coral Gables, Coconut Grove and vicinity has the sixth highest number of cumulative adult AIDS cases and the eight highest for HIV cases. The risk factors for the 2,337 reported AIDS cases and 563 HIV cases are:

North West Dade
Zone I that includes Hialeah, Miami Lakes, Hialeah Gardens, Miami Springs and vicinity has 2,327 adult AIDS cases and 949 HIV cases. This area has the seventh highest number of cumulative AIDS cases and the sixth highest number for HIV cases. The risk factors for the reported cases are:

South Dade
Although South Dade does not have a high concentration of cases, it reflects different characteristics of the population at risk in the migrant rural area. Zone IX and Zone X represents the South Dade area.

Zone IX that includes Perrine, Cutler Ridge, and vicinity has 1,763 adult AIDS cases and 610 adult HIV cases. This area has the eighth highest number of AIDS cases and the seventh highest number of cumulative HIV cases in the county. The risk factors for the reported cases are:

Zone X that includes Homestead, Florida City, and vicinity has 1,187 adult AIDS cases and 408 HIV cases. This area has the tenth highest number of cumulative adult AIDS and HIV cases in the county. The risk factors for the reported cases are:

West Dade
Zone VII that includes Sweetwater, Westchester and Kendall has 1,347 adult AIDS cases and 451 HIV cases. This area has the ninth highest number of cumulative adult AIDS and HIV cases in the county. The risk factors for the reported cases are:
