Executive Summary

Today's youth are not only tomorrow's leaders, but many of them are emerging as today's youth leaders as well. They are not only our future but also our PRESENT. They are a new generation of motivated, empowered and articulate individuals. The child or adolescent of today will know that in order to learn he/she must be healthy; that not only do guns kill, but tobacco too; that wearing a seat belt is not "un-cool"; that a high fat, high salt diet can lead to major health problems.

The School Health mission is catching on! The program strives to promote healthy, lifelong behaviors and to prevent disease through health education. The School Health philosophy is that prevention and education are the keys to improved health and educational outcomes. The Miami-Dade County Health Department, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and numerous caring partners have pledged to safeguard the physical and mental health and well being of our children by providing the best possible school health services.
