The School Health Services Program (SHSP) is a collaborative effort
through community partnerships between the Miami-Dade County Health
Department (M-DCHD), Miami- Dade
County Public Schools (M-DCPS), the Children's
Trust and the community at large. This collaborative effort allows
community partners to have input and develop strategies in the state
issued school health services plan. Partners help meet goals and objectives
that foster comprehensive or basic school health service in schools
utilizing several models.
Community Partnerships fosters the expertise of diverse individuals, groups and professions, allowing a more complete understanding of issues, needs, and resources. Partnerships help to improve the capacity to plan and evaluate while allowing for more unending comprehensive strategies
The benefit in establishing community partnership is to eliminate duplication and allow providers to specialize in their areas of expertise, link and integrate partners' activities, and ensure consistency in providing school health services. The additional benefits of community partnerships helps to improve efficiency maximize limited resources while enhancing the ability to leverage resources.
The goal of newly formed partnerships between the Miami-Dade County
Health Department (M-DCHD), Miami-
Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), the Children's
Trust is to have a health team in every school by the year 2010.
Providers in the community are encouraged to become a part of this
unprecedented initiative. Establishing working relationships with
a wide range of community partners create an environment that supports
the health care needs of the child in the school community.
