What Food Does WIC Provide?

WIC provides supplemental, nutritious foods for low to moderate income pregnant, breast feeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. These foods are rich in protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C. These are key nutrients commonly lacking in the diets of the WIC target population.

Participants exchange WIC food checks at approved retail grocery stores. In some cases, special formulas are distributed directly to the participant from the WIC local agency.
